Optus revamps remaining plans

Optus revamps remaining plansUPDATED | After the successful release of its Fusion broadband and phone bundles, Optus will now make over the rest of its plan line up.Due to be released next month, the new plans will cover ADSL1, ADSL2+ and cable, and will feature new shaping speeds. No off-peak data bonus will be available this time round, however. The plans will feature data limits of 200MB ($34.99), 1GB ($49.99), 15GB ($69.99) and 30GB (109.99), with a $10 discount for bundling, as well as free months deals for long contracts.Optus caused some controversy with its Fusion plans, as it was the first time the telco decided to count uploads as well as downloads towards quota usage. The only other major telco doing this is Telstra BigPond. Optus told The Australian that it was prompted by a huge growth in the use of multimedia devices in the hands of customers which give them the ability to create and distribute their own content .Sources close to Optus told Whirlpool that the new plans will also count uploads. Existing customers on older plans will not be affected, however. The new plans also feature new shaping speeds, with Optus finally doing away with the crippling 28Kbps cap. The new throttled speeds will be 64Kbps or 128Kbps for high end plans.Optus will also offer 8Mbit/s ADSL1 plans for the first time, with the higher speed attracting a $30 premium over the 1.5Mbit/s pricing.

Starting an ecommerce website

Starting an ecommerce website? Choosing your payment gateway. When starting off in the world of ecommerce, one of the most important things you need to do when developing your website is to choose an appropriate payment gateway.A payment gateway is the facility connected to your website that allows you to take credit cards as payment methods. Credit cards are a nessecary payment option on successful ecommerce websites so you should never consider not having this facility on your website. Some ecommerce websites may offer a download form to print and send with credit card information or have a statement saying that the customer will be contacted for payment once the order has been placed. Although this can save money in the short term by not utilising a payment gateway, our research has found that this severely limits the number of customers who will place an order on your website.Online customers want to know exactly what they are up for (including freight) and will want to pay and complete the order there and then. If you place hurdles to this (such as a downloadable order form or saying you will ring them for credit card details) you will usually find the customer will just go elsewhere. When it comes to payment gateways, there are three common type of payment gateway.Manual Payment GatewayA manual payment gateway is a facility that securely takes the customers credit card details and stores them for you to access and process manually through a facility such as an eftpos machine. Manual payment gateways are generally the most inexpensive form of gateway but do require you to manually process each payment which can become an overhead if you are performing many transactions a day.To utilise a manual payment gateway, you will need a merchant account with your bank and also permission from the bank to process credit cards without a signature. You will also need access to a facility such as an eftpos machine or online processing system to process the payments through. You will need to speak to the bank to organise this and then utilise a manual payment gateway such as www.egateway.com.au

A successful website

What makes for a successful website?Wouldn't you like to know the main ingredients for creating a successful website? What are the basics that make a website successful? A website that will stand out and be noticed by your visitors. One that will keep those visitors returning to your site, again and again. A successful website that generates high levels of sales and enquiries?Including the following elements in your website development is essential to standing out from the crowd and turning those visitors into customers:1. Good KeywordsThe use of relevant keywords is absolutely essential in your website design. Include at least 200 words with a brief introduction on your home page and ensure you include relevant keywords or phrases such as website design or search engine optimisation specialists . Research what your target market is actually searching for and use these search phrases as a part of your copy on your website to ensure that search engines pick up these terms on your site and rank you accordingly.2. Simple DesignDon't over complicate the design of your website. Your potential customers will be looking for a website that is clean, functional and easy to understand. If you fill your website with clutter or bombard the visitor with too many options on the home page, you will just confuse them and they will look elsewhere.3. Easy NavigationEasy navigation is essential for a successful website design. People are in a hurry and will not put up with abstract navigation systems or cluttered menus that make it hard for them to find what they are looking for. Use an experienced website designer such as Mantis Technologies to ensure the navigation of your website is designed in a user friendly way.4. Fresh ContentKeep your website up to date with fresh content. Research shows that search engines favour (and therefore give higher rankings to) websites that regularly update their content. Try to add new content at least once a month to stay ahead of your competitors. The best type of content to add to your site are news items and articles. They not only encourage visitors to keep coming back for the latest info but they also add extra content for the search engines to index and therefore direct more traffic to your website.
